The James L. West Center for Dementia Care received the Silver Award in the prestigious McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards program on Wednesday. McKnight’s is a recognized leader in business news publications serving leaders in the institutional long-term care field.
The West Center and its partner, EaaS AI, were honored in the Innovator of the Year category for their development of “Eunice,” a customized AI persona utilizing ChatGPT.
According to Cheryl Harding, Ph.D., President and CEO of The West Center, “We are honored to be selected as a major innovator on such a prominent national stage. McKnight’s is a leading voice in our profession.”
She adds, “One year ago, we began a journey that leveraged ChatGPT as our platform in a way that developed a persona of Eunice West, who was the founder of our organization.”

The judges were impressed by the impact of ChatGPT in composing and designing materials across various marketing, strategic planning, business operations, and finance platforms. The implementation of “Eunice” has enhanced productivity throughout the organization and ensures the West Center’s communications consistently reflect its core values of expertise, dignity, and person-centered care.
ChatGPT has helped The West Center to scale its outreach and expand programming in ways that were previously time- and resource-prohibitive.
The McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards program concluded a two-day online conference that addressed timely issues facing the long-term care and aging services industry.
