A man was shot in the leg and struck multiple times in the face with a handgun when a fight broke out during a child custody exchange in Philadelphia overnight, police said.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, on October 5, 2025, around 10:32 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person with a gun near Bleigh and Whitaker Avenues.
Police said when officers got to the scene, they found a 29-year-old man with facial injuries and a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was taken to a local hospital and placed in stable condition.
Preliminary information revealed that the man was exchanging custody of his son with his ex-girlfriend when an argument broke out with her current boyfriend, according to police.
Police said the suspect struck the man multiple times in the face with a handgun before shooting him in the leg. The suspect then fled the scene with the ex-girlfriend.
The Shooting Investigation Group is continuing to investigate this incident, police said.
