Educators in 13 San Antonio-area school districts under investigation for posts about Charlie Kirk’s death

  • October 6, 2025

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Education Agency is looking into more than 350 complaints against educators or school district staff members regarding comments made or posted about Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Educators in 124 districts across the state are under investigation, according to the TEA.

Bexar County-area school districts where an educator or employee is under investigation include:

  • Comal ISD

  • Eagle Pass ISD

  • Edgewood ISD

  • IDEA Public Schools

  • Jourdanton ISD

  • Lackland ISD

  • North East ISD

  • Northside ISD

  • Pearsall ISD

  • San Antonio ISD

  • Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City CISD

  • Seguin ISD

  • Southwest ISD

The TEA clarified that the more than 350 complaints do not equate to the same number of educators and staff members being investigated; it reflects the total number of complaints filed.

KSAT reached out to the three biggest school districts in San Antonio — NISD, NEISD and SAISD — for comment.

NISD

“In compliance with a directive from Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner Mike Morath, Northside ISD is immediately reporting to TEA all alleged instances of district employees posting social media content that may be deemed inappropriate and possibly in violation of the Educator’s Code of Ethics. To date, NISD has submitted a total of four incidents to TEA for their investigation: three from teachers and one from a district substitute,” NISD spokesperson Barry Perez said in a statement.

NEISD

“We are aware of one employee’s social media posts that we reported to the TEA,” NEISD spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor said in a statement to KSAT. “We do not know how many (of if any) were reported by parents directly to the Agency.”

SAISD has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Background

Kirk was shot and killed last month at an event at a school in Utah.

Shortly after Kirk’s assassination, TEA Commissioner Mike Morath announced that the agency would investigate educators accused of posting “inappropriate content” related to his death on social media platforms.

In his letter to superintendents, Morath called some of the posts “reprehensible.”

“While the exercise of free speech is a fundamental right we are all blessed to share, it does not give carte blanche authority to celebrate or sow violence against those that share differing beliefs and perspectives,” Morath wrote.
