The Dallas Stars made further moves Tuesday morning to get closer to setting the roster that will take the ice Thursday against Winnipeg.
The Stars signed Adam Erne, who was in Dallas for training camp on a professional tryout, to a one-year, two-way contract. The value of the contract was not specified.
Dallas also recalled Lian Bichsel from the Texas Stars and placed captain Jamie Benn on long-term injured reserve.
Erne earned a spot in the Stars’ organization and appears to be starting the season in Dallas as a temporary replacement for Benn. He practiced with the team Tuesday.

The 30-year-old has totaled 91 points in 379 regular-season NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings and most recently, the Edmonton Oilers in 2023-24 when new Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan was there as an assistant. He had one assist in 10 regular-season games for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL last season.
The Stars did not have an open forward spot ahead of training camp, but Benn underwent surgery to repair a collapsed lung and is expected to miss a month, leading to a forward competition in the last week of the preseason.
Justin Hryckowian and Arttu Hyry, who both had standout years in the AHL last season, were competing with Erne for the spot. The two players were loaned to Texas Sunday. As it stands now, Erne holds the spot. However, the Stars could still make additional moves before their game Thursday.
The Stars had also temporarily loaned Bichsel to Texas Monday as a cap-saving move before placing Benn on LTIR. They also recalled Harrison Scott and Trey Taylor to get the team as close to the cap and maximize the LTIR pool. Those two players are expected to be loaned to Texas before the start of the season.
