A trip to Rome, Italy included a special moment for Maddy Siegrist.

According to a social media post from the Dallas Wings forward, Siegrist got the opportunity to meet Pope Leo XIV. A photo on Siegrist’s Instagram page shows the forward shaking hands with the pope.

“Blessed to have been able to visit the capital of the Catholic Church,” Siegrist wrote on Instagram.

Siegrist also shared photos of other Roman landmarks, including the city’s well-known Colosseum. Back in May, Catholic cardinals elected Robert Prevost as the new pope and leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

Prevost, a Chicago-born missionary, took the name Leo XIV upon election. Like Siegrist, the pope is a Villanova alum. Siegrist earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Villanova in 2021, while Prevost earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the university in 1977.

Siegrist appeared in 26 games for the Wings during the 2025 season, averaging 12.7 points and 4.3 rebounds.
