NFL Week 5 Overreactions

USAT’s Lorenzo Reyes breaks down the best games from NFL Week 5.

Sports Seriously

The Giants (1-4) are on prime time for the second time this season as they host the Eagles (4-1) at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night.

Despite opening as favorites on the road against the Saints, rookie QB Jaxson Dart and the Giants had turnover problems all afternoon long in a 26-14 loss in Week 5.

Big Blue has a quick turnaround as they head back home to welcome the defending champion Eagles, who have owned this head-to-head matchup, coming into this Week 6 game winning 19 of the last 23 meetings.

This is the first of two meetings between these I-95 rivals, as the Giants and Eagles will meet again just 17 days apart in Week 8 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Our prognosticators throughout the 2025 season are: Art Stapleton (Giants/NFL writer, NorthJersey.com), Bert Bainbridge (sports trending reporter/columnist, NorthJersey.com), Brian Marron (digital producer, NorthJersey.com), Chris Iseman (Rutgers writer, NorthJersey.com), Bob Jordan (sports editor, Asbury Park Press/APP.com) and Dave Rivera (sports editor, USA TODAY Northeast/NorthJersey.com).

Here are our staff predictions for Giants vs. Eagles Week 6 contest from MetLife on Thursday night:

Art Stapleton

The pick: Eagles 31, Giants 17

Here’s why: This is set up to be the Eagles’ get right game, given the lack of offensive firepower the Giants have without Malik Nabers for the rest of the season. What’s that you say? Saquon Barkley isn’t having the same kind of season as he did last year? Well, the Giants might just cause Mr. 2,000 – on the same day he’s rubbed salt in the Big Blue wound by releasing his documentary on Amazon Prime – to get his groove back. Jaxson Dart will have his moments, just not enough as Philly puts the game away late with a long Jalen Hurts TD run.

Bert Bainbridge

The pick: Eagles 27, Giants 17

Here’s why: The Giants couldn’t hold onto the ball as they turned it over a season-high five times in a disappointing loss to the Saints in Week 5. While they might be home on a short week versus the Eagles, Philly will come into this one with a bad taste in their mouth after their own upset loss at the hands of the Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

Jaxson Dart and the offense will come up short again as Saquon Barkley suits up and the Eagles defeat the Giants, continuing their dominance over their divisional foe for the last decade plus.

Bob Jordan

The pick: Eagles 42, Giants 10

Here’s why: Saquon Barkley only got six carries against the Broncos and is on the injury list? He’ll probably play, but doesn’t matter. The Eagles could suit up Michael Haddix again and cruise in this one.

Dave Rivera

The pick: Eagles 24, Giants 16

Here’s why: The Eagles have had their issues on offense this season, and they’ll be up against a Giants team desperate for a signature victory. This game will be close for a while on a Thursday night at MetLife, but Jalen Hurts finds a way to put this one to bed.

Brian Marron

The pick: Eagles 27, Giants 14

Here’s why: Saquon Barkley only received six carries last week, and it’s safe to say that will not happen again when he plays his former squad. The Giants are the sixth-worst team in the NFL in rushing yards allowed, which should let a superior Eagles team get Barkley going and set up the rest of the offense.
