CHICO, Calif. – A bear made an unexpected visit to a neighborhood in Chico, causing a stir on Saint Augustine Drive. The Chico Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting the bear’s presence on a front porch Sunday night.

Officers used drones to locate the bear and monitored its movements to ensure safety. They employed safe methods to encourage the bear to return to its natural habitat.

“Our UAS team deployed drones in the area to confirm the bear’s location, which allowed officers to monitor its movements and identify a safe method of persuading this clearly confused fella off the property,” said a representative from the police department. “The bear eventually moved along, and no one was hurt — including our new FBF (Fat Bear Friend).”

Authorities remind residents that wildlife may wander into town in search of food as winter approaches. If a bear is sighted, the police advise keeping a safe distance, securing trash, and contacting authorities if the animal poses a threat.
