Campanile also praised Newsome’s playstyle, saying it fits with the Jaguars’ approach under Campanile of playing aggressively at the point of attack.
“If you watch him play man to man, he’s really sticky in coverage, competes at the catch point – then in zone coverage, he’s a savvy player,” Campanile said. “What we look at and we’re excited about, he has really good ball skills, ability to break and drive on the ball.
“Anytime you get a smart, aggressive player, we’re fired up about it.”
Asked how quickly Newsome might be available, Campanile said: “We’ll find out pretty quick here. We’re going to try and get him going as fast as we can and see how all that goes. He’s a very bright guy. I think he will be quick on the uptake.
“Getting him ready for the game plan, that’s Priority No. 1 right now.”
