Several players have suffered injuries in the closing stages of the ATP Tour, and one rising star has announced the end of their season.

Withdrawals have been a recurring theme of the Shanghai Masters, with the likes of Jannik Sinner and David Goffin leaving the tournament mid-match.

Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from Shanghai after winning the Japan Open, while Hubert Hurkacz has announced the end of his season.

Another star has followed suit by ending his ATP season with the announcement of his third surgery in 13 months.

Swiss player Leandro Riedi has shown real signs of promise on the ATP Tour this year, despite being plagued by injury.

The star has confirmed that another surgery will end his 2025 season, although he hopes to be back for the Australian Open.

“Groin surgery. Season over. 3rd surgery in 13 months. It hurts more than I can say, physically and mentally,” wrote the player on Instagram.

“Stepping away from the social media noise to reconnect with myself. Broken? Sometimes. Finished? Never. Australia 2026. That’s the goal. That’s the fight,” he continued positively.

Riedi is no stranger to bouncing back from surgery, after going under the knife in January. The Swiss star returned to the top World No. 175 after his run to the fourth round of the US Open.

Riedi defeated Francisco Cerundolo and Pedro Martinez at Flushing Meadows to become the lowest-ranked player to reach a major fourth round since Wimbledon in 2002.

He was also the lowest-ranked player to reach the US Open fourth round since 1985, when Jay Berger achieved the same feat.

The packed tour schedule has seen multiple players suffer from the sheer amount of tennis across the year, and Riedi is not the only star to drop out before the season is finished.

Jack Draper ended his season after the US Open following complications with an arm injury that forced him to withdraw from the Grand Slam.

Fellow British star Heather Watson has also announced the end of her season, which is the first time in her career she has missed tennis through injury.

Daria Kasatkina also ended her season, describing herself as at ‘breaking point’ after a tough schedule in 2025.
