SPOKANE, Wash. — Over a thousand books were gifted to the Spokane County Jail on Saturday thanks to Pages of Redemption, a nonprofit that provides educational reading materials to inmates across the state.

Pages of Redemption started this project two years ago. This was its first time making a stop in Spokane for what was the biggest drop off yet.

The nonprofit partnered with the Friends of the Wenatchee Public Library and a local author to make it happen.

Bryson Fico founded Pages of Redemption with the goal to lower the recidivism rate and show inmates renewed hope.

“I did this so hopefully that they can go back upon their release and kind of give back to the community once they’re released and show that, hey, people actually care about us inside these facilities, because oftentimes that’s a very low point in people’s lives,” Fico said.
