David Muir swapped his beloved desk at ABC News to report live from the so-called Hostage Square in Tel Aviv to deliver a tense segment on the final hours of the Gaza ceasefire
It was an intense show for ABC World News Tonight viewers as host David Muir headed across the world to report on the final hours of the Gaza ceasefire deal.
The 51-year-old ABC heartthrob was reporting live from what many have dubbed Hostage Square in Tel Aviv when he addressed viewers at home to deliver the latest. “As we turn now to historic developments unfolding at this hour, the eyes of the world right here on the Middle East, a huge crowd in hostage Square here in Tel Aviv today, the tense final hours,” David began.
He continued, “Cautious optimism, 20 hostages who are still alive expected to be released by Hamas within hours, here President Trump and what he said just moments ago before heading to the region.” It comes after President Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, addressed Israelis gathered at Hostage Square to celebrate the historic occasion.

The journalist continued, “And I’ll take you right down to hostage square, the Americans we met who said they had to be here to welcome the hostages home.”

“But first, our chief foreign correspondent, Ian Pannell on what’s expected to unfold with just hours to go here tonight,” he concluded before passing over to his colleague.
Speaking to viewers via a voice-over, Ian explained, “The long, painful wait for the last remaining captives held by Hamas will soon be over, and they will soon be reunited with their loved ones. President Trump heading to the region to meet with hostage families and address the Israeli parliament tomorrow, before traveling to Egypt with world leaders for a Middle East peace summit.”
A clip then played of President Trump speaking on the promising situation, declaring, “They have the hostages. I understand all 20, and we may get them out a little bit early.”
The segment was shared to ABC World News Tonight’s Instagram account along with the caption that briefly explained what was going on. “After more than two years in captivity, Hamas is set to release all the living hostages, as well as the bodies of some of the deceased captives. @Pannell.Ian reports as Pres. Trump travels to the region to mark the historic moment.”

A second viewer gushed, “Historic…. Can’t wait to watch it….” with a third adding, “Amazing! Thank you @realdonaldtrump better late than never I guess.” A fourth echoed, “God bless America and President Trump for bringing peace, freedom and justice to the people of Israel.”
Others were not so hopeful, with a fifth viewer noting, “‘Not all the bodies have been recovered’ which will be the precise reason this war will begin all over again…” While a sixth fan declared, “Glad they’re releasing them (still have yet to see) … but you cannot negotiate with terrorists. Period.”
