The end of the fall season is right around the corner, but Dallas County looks to have plenty of teams that could stay alive.

ADM

The steamroll continues for the Tigers’ football after a 45-3 win over Glenwood on Friday night. That marks seven straight games scoring five or more touchdowns. Kuemper Catholic (3A), West Lyon (1A), and West Sioux (A) are the only other teams in the state to accomplish that feat.

Things may have started off slowly with only a field goal by Colby Simons in the first quarter, but Hudson Shull and crew turned it up a notch or three the rest of the way. Shull ran his way to over 200 yards rushing, and logged three touchdowns to improve to a class-leading 25 TDs. Reed Ostarczyk, Reece Strittmaker, and Leyton Gerleman were also in on the scoring action to help take down a Rams team that had previously only lost once this season by four points.

ADM takes that momentum into a crucial Week 8 meeting with Lewis Central. A win over the Titans would virtually lock up the District 6 title and get revenge on the Titans, who won both of last year’s meetings by one possession.

Dallas Center-Grimes

Winning the district is out of play for the Mustangs, stuck in the same district as top-five-ranked Dowling Catholic, which is 4-0 and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over DCG with two weeks left to play. But the Mustangs’ postseason dreams are still alive with the No. 14 ranking in Class 5A after Friday’s 31-10 win over Marshalltown.

It was one of quarterback Chase Engel’s top performances of the season, working his way to 15-of-20 passing with 123 yards and two touchdowns. The stout defense also got in on the scoring action with Luke Lampe scoring on a 37-yard fumble return (along with one more recovery to help flip the field).

In the gym, DCG volleyball earned itself homecourt advantage in Region 4 and will play Oct. 23 in the semifinals. ADM holds the second seed, potentially setting the two up for a title match on Oct. 28 to punch a ticket to the state tournament.

Van Meter

The postseason has a couple of routes for the Bulldogs football team this week after defeating Grand View Christian on Friday, 27-13.

A win over Clarke (winless in five straight games) gives Van Meter a 4-1 record within District 8. But the Bulldogs need to watch the scoreboard between Woodward-Granger and Clarinda. If the latter wins, due to the Cardinals’ Week 5 win, the Bulldogs would be runners-up. Woodward winning along with Van Meter avoiding a loss on Senior Night is the only path to a district crown, thanks to their 40-20 win over the Hawks.

Before competing for the WCAC volleyball crown, the Bulldogs earned the two-seed in Region 3 and will host Albia on Oct. 21, looking to hit the 20-win mark for a program-record five seasons in a row.
