Charles Barkley sits at the top for Phoenix with most rebounds in a playoff game.
The Suns have 33 playoff appearances over their 58 seasons in the league. Along the way, Phoenix has been home to some all-time NBA legends. In this article, we will explore the best single-game rebounding performances by a Sun in the playoffs.
Charles Barkley, 24 rebounds (1993 Western Conference Finals, Game 7)
Barkley was at his best when the Suns needed him most, as he produced a massive outing in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. The Round Mound of Rebound lived up to his name with 14 defensive rebounds and 10 offensive rebounds. His 24 rebounds were seven shy of what the SuperSonics had as a team. Barley also dropped 44 points, which was his third-highest figure in the postseason, en route to helping the Suns punch their ticket for the NBA Finals.
Charles Barkley, 23 rebounds (1995 Western Conference Semifinals, Game 7)
Another Game 7 and another instance of Barkley rising to the occasion. Two years after Barkley’s huge outing against Seattle, he and the Suns were squaring off against an elite Houston team in the Western Conference Semifinals. Barkley dominated the glass with 23 boards and added 18 points and five assists over 44 minutes of work. Unfortunately for the Suns, the Rockets edged them out 115-114 to go onto the Western Conference Finals. Houston would go on to win the title over the Magic that year.
Deandre Ayton, 22 rebounds (2021 Western Conference Finals, Game 4)
Game 4 of the Suns’ series with the Clippers was a defensive battle as Phoenix outlasted Los Angeles 84-80 in one of the lower-scoring playoff games in recent history. Ayton’s rebounding was a key factor in that game as he pulled down 22 boards, including nine on the offensive glass. He added 19 points and swatted four blocks as the Suns took a 3-1 lead in the series. Phoenix would go on to win the series and advance to the NBA Finals against the Bucks.
Charles Barkley, 21 rebounds (1993 Western Conference Semifinals, Game 6)
Before Barkley set the franchise single-game rebounding record in the Conference Finals in 1993, the Suns had to get through David Robinson and the Spurs. Barkley was on fire during this postseason as he had another massive effort to close out the series and punch the Suns’ ticket to the next round. He grabbed 21 rebounds and added 28 points as the Suns held on to defeat the Spurs 102.
Amar’e Stoudemire, 21 rebounds (2007 Western Conference First Round, Game 4)
Stoudemire and the Suns were in the midst of a terrific era of success in 2007 as they racked up 61 wins during the regular season to lock in the No.2 seed in the Western Conference. They drew the Lakers in the first round and came into Game 4 with a chance to take control of the series with a 3-1 lead. Stoudemire did his part with 27 points and 21 rebounds to help Phoenix win the game 113-100. The Suns would finish the series in five games before running into the eventual champion Spurs in the next round.
The 21-rebound mark has also been reached in the postseason by Charles Barkley, Paul Silas and Mark West.
