A project on the Buckman Bridge is expected to continue causing traffic disruptions into early 2026.

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — If you make frequent trips across the Buckman, be prepared for potential traffic delays over the weekend.

Beginning Friday night, two southbound I-295 lanes over the Buckman Bridge will be closed through early Monday to facilitate construction. The ramp from northbound U.S. 17 to I-295 South will also be closed.

The bridge has seen several scheduled closures since Spring due to an ongoing finger joint replacement project. The Florida Department of Transportation said it also involves structural steel work.

Through the course of the project, FDOT only allows for double lane closures from 10 p.m. on Fridays up until 4 a.m. on Mondays so as not to make drivers’ often-chaotic weekday commute worse.

Speed limits in the project zone are lowered from 65 mph to 55 mph.

The $5.4 million project isn’t expected to be complete until early 2026, so more closures like these are expected over the next few months.

FDOT said drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, as backups in the area are likely.
