My wife, Rozanna, and I live in White Hills Lake in Fort Worth. We love Fort Worth and its people.
Before living here, we had a nice house in Dallas that we did a lot of work on. It was great. The neighborhood we were in, Bluffview, became very popular, but we needed something new.
All of our neighbors moved out, and we had construction going on all the time. There was constant stuff going on.
We had already talked about moving to Fort Worth if we ever needed to move, so White Lake Hills became our new home in 2006. We knew people who lived in the area and we happened to really like the neighborhood.
It matched the life we had in Bluffview.
White Lake Hills is like a little island of its own. There’s no through traffic. It might as well be a gated neighborhood. It earned its name because of the hilly land and the White Lake that sits just next to Nolan Catholic High School.
The neighborhood hosts events from time to time, such as the Fourth of July parade and some occasional garage sales.
What we like about it the most is its proximity to natural areas. We’re right by the Trinity River. There’s a creek that drains White Lake and runs under Randol Mill Road, straight into the Trinity. Because we have a greenbelt close by, we have a lot of wildlife that are fun to watch.
The neighborhood used to have wild turkeys, but they haven’t been seen in a while. We do have a lot of predators like bobcats but mainly coyotes. The lake also attracts birds, and we have a lot of old trees.
Gateway Park, just west of us, also adds to the green space we have.
Roz and I try to support local businesses we have in the area. We have a new little restaurant that’s opened up called Chef’s Corner. We’ll go there frequently.
When we first made it to White Lake Hills, we had a golf course, the Woodhaven Country Club, which is now being reported about quite a bit in the Fort Worth Report since that land was sold.
White Lake Hills has a really wide variety of architecture. Roz and I were told the first development in the neighborhood started in the early ’60s. Our house was made in 1974. The lot sizes are also pretty big. We didn’t really care for a big lot, but we ended up with something even bigger than what we were looking for. Thanks to that, we have a lot of grass and native plants in our yard.
We love Fort Worth. It’s grown and it’s different from when we first got here, but we find it’s a much more livable city than Dallas. The people are extremely friendly. It’s easy to meet people. People just know each other. It’s a neat community.
We participate in a lot of volunteer work that we do in different places, like the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, the Fort Worth Audubon Society, the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth and the Native Plant Society of Texas. One of the amenities we also really enjoy is the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
We love the city and our proximity to everything.
