Woman struck by train overnight in Glendale

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A woman has serious injuries after she was hit by a slow-moving train late Wednesday night in the West Valley.

Glendale Police said the incident happened just after 10:30 p.m. at the train tracks near 59th and Glendale avenues. A slow-moving train was reported traveling on the tracks when the conductor said he saw a woman, who appeared to by crying, standing on the tracks.

The train struck the woman, and officers helped get her out from under the train when they arrived at the scene.

First responders provided medical care to the woman. According to Glendale Police, she suffered a cut to her head and face area, a broken foot, minor spine fractures and possibly other bone injuries.

She was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, Glendale PD said. The woman has not told police why she was on the train tracks.

Detectives are still investigating this incident, but the area has now been fully reopened.
