Panama’s National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG) terminated its contract with the telco Ufinet due to repeated breaches in the provision of internet services.
In addition, AIG imposed a fine of 6.48 million (mn) balboas (US$6.48mn) on the company.
The contract, signed in 2021 and scheduled to expire in December 2025, was intended to provide fiber optic internet and telecommunications transport services for the central and local governments.
According to the authority, during the term of the contract, the service experienced multiple failures, configurations outside the established technical framework, impacts on critical state platforms, and repeated outages that compromised the government network.
The agreement established a minimum capacity of 4 Mbps during the first year and 6 Mbps starting in the second.
