LA PLATA, Md. — After 30 years serving customers in Indian Head, Southern Maryland Seafood Company is moving to a new location in La Plata. Opening soon in the Rosewick Crossing Shopping Center, the family-run restaurant will bring its steamed crabs and fresh seafood to a new neighborhood — just in time for summer.
The restaurant has built its reputation on fresh carryout seafood, including crabs by the dozen, fried fish, shrimp and made-to-order platters. Its new location at 220 Rosewick Road in La Plata will continue that tradition, serving longtime customers and reaching new ones who may not have traveled to Indian Head.
While the new space includes a few tables and chairs for customer convenience, the business will continue to operate primarily as a carryout restaurant. A recent Facebook comment noted that the menu will remain largely the same, with a few new items expected to be added.
Known for its quality seafood and reasonable prices, Southern Maryland Seafood Company has built a loyal following across Charles County. While the move represents a fresh start, the core of the business remains the same.
“We are truly missing our customers,” the owners shared. “You all are like family to us. We’ve been working hard to get open real soon. We have the best customers ever — looking forward to seeing you.”
The business is expected to reopen in July and is currently hiring for kitchen and counter staff positions. Follow Southern Maryland Seafood Company on Facebook for opening announcements and job opportunities. The phone number remains the same at 301-753-6969. The new location is at 220 Rosewick Road, La Plata, MD 20646, in the shopping center with Lowe’s and Giant.
