Early in the third period, Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell suffered an upper-body injury and left the game.
He was hit by a hard shot and appeared to suffer a left arm or wrist injury at 4:54 of the third. It was his final shift of the game.
Following the game, coach Dan Muse indicated Rakell was being evaluated for an upper-body injury, but didn’t have any more details or specifics.
“It’s upper body. We’re still waiting for some more information, still being evaluated,” Muse said. “So I’ll provide updates when we have them.”
Rakell, 32, has eight points, including three goals (3-5-8) in nine games this season and is a plus-1. Last season, he set a career-high with 35 goals.
“It sort of had a trickle down effect there throughout the lines. I mean, guys realized the lines might be different or things might be switched up a bit, so I thought we handled it well,” said Rakell’s frequent center Sidney Crosby. “We had a good push there to get ourselves back in it.”
The Penguins rotated Evgeni Malkin and Filip Hallander through the top line in Rakell’s absence.
