PHOENIX — A woman is dead after being shot in Phoenix and police are searching for the suspect who is still at large.

The shooting caused the closure of an apartment complex near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road as police searched for a suspect.

According to police, officers arrived at an apartment around 4:45 p.m. and found the woman with a gunshot wound. She was then brought to a nearby hospital by firefighters where she was pronounced dead.

The apartment complex was cleared around 7:30 p.m.

Officers are following up with leads at other locations in their search for the suspect.
