If you thought the only things invading Los Angeles were tourists, traffic and aspiring actors and singers, think again. The city of Angels has just won a new “accolade” that place the city in the top spot of a not so glamorous ranking.

According to a recent report from Yelp, L.A. is now officially America’s #1 city for rodent-related searches. The city of stars is also the city of rats! And they’re not exactly booking a hotel for a short stay, it all points to these annoying little animals moving to people basements for good…

As the report states, the demand for pest control has spiked nationwide, with a 21% increase in searches for “rodent” services over the past year. October seems to be when rodents go on their own little Halloween crawl, sneaking into garages, attics, and under baseboards as the weather cools.

Los Angeles takes the top spot thanks to its dense neighborhoods and dry conditions pushing critters closer to human food sources. While San Francisco comes in second, where older buildings and tight city layouts give rats and mice plenty of cozy hiding spots. New York City, unsurprisingly, lands at #3, still holding strong as a rodent mecca with its subways, trash, and even a Rat Czar program.

Experts recommend staying proactive by sealing cracks, keeping food stored securely, so you don’t inadvertently give rodents a free buffet. That way, prevention not only will save your health but also your wallet.
