On Wednesday, the Phoenix City Council will consider paying a multimillion-dollar lawsuit settlement in connection with a police vehicle having struck a child.
If approved, the settlement would be for more than $5.2 million.
Court records say that, in June of 2023, a child who is now about 5 years old was in the roadway in a neighborhood near 11th Avenue and Buckeye Road.
As a police vehicle approached, another child reportedly signaled to the officer driving that there was someone in the street.
Records also say the police vehicle did not have on emergency lights and sirens, the child struck suffered permanent injuries, and investigators found that the police vehicle was going above the speed limit.
