What is “Ballet of Lights”?
“Ballet of Lights” is an ode to the globally recognized artform and the many years of training every ballet dancer goes through to achieve top technical prowess. Still, the show is not your typical classical ballet because it blends dynamic music and choreography with optical fibers incorporated into the dancers’ costumes. It’s an innovative approach that makes ballet more accessible for young and visually impaired audiences.
Ballet, its storytelling and the show
Through graceful and precise movements, incredibly gifted ballet dancers like Carlotta Brianza, Martha Graham or Anna Pavlova tell a story in a unique way. Take The Sleeping Beauty for instance. Charles Perrault’s version made the show famous for its ability to evoke emotions simply through movement.
“Ballet of Lights” in Houston will recreate this iconic piece, adding optical fibers to the dancers’ intricate costumes. Featuring an abridged version of The Sleeping Beauty, op. 66 composed by legendary Russian composer Tchaikovsky, you’ll be transported to magical lands where the ballerinas’ gravity-defying twists and turns are highlighted by their glowing outfits. The lights worn by the ethereal ballerinas take emotional turns through different shades to reflect the mood of various moments.
“Ballet of Lights” is a dazzling event, available on selected dates over the coming months with two 60-minute showings on each date. Take your seat at the Bayou Theater and enjoy a unique dance and light show right here in the city.
