UTA EXCEL Campus Activities will host Halloween Casino Night from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday in the University Center Bluebonnet Ballroom.

Students can enjoy a substance-free Halloween party alternative with various games such as blackjack, roulette and poker, as well as a costume contest, a raffle and more.

The costume contest, according to Elizabeth Gonzales, EXCEL Campus Activities programming director, is a highlight of the event, with costumes being judged on quality, detail, creativity, difficulty and character development.

Gonzales said the casino night is used as an educational event for students.

“We’re not trying to promote gambling, but we’re trying to teach people how to do these things in a safe environment,” Gonzales said.

Jodie Orogun, UTA Ambassadors marketing chair, said that Casino Night is put on to bring different students together.

“This is another time for students to get together and have fun without having to go way off campus or do something extravagant,’’ Orogun said. “It’s just something they can do here for free.’’
