Nine-month-old Claire, an Australian Cattle Dog, has found a new home after two months of medical treatment for severe burns at the Arizona Humane Society.
PHOENIX, Arizona — An Australian Cattle Dog puppy has found her forever home after getting treatment for severe burns and heat-related injuries when left out in temperatures of 109 degrees Fahrenheit in July in Phoenix, according to an Arizona Humane Society news release.

Claire, who is nine months old, was reportedly found locked in a crate for hours outside in direct sunlight on a 110+ degree day.
AHS said upon arrival, the pup was found to be non-responsive in extreme heat distress and had an internal temperature of 109 degrees.
The humane society worked to stabilize Claire’s temperature before taking her to the shelter’s trauma hospital. First responders on scene were reportedly shocked at her concerned state.
“104 [degrees internally] is usually when you start seeing possible seizures and we start running into organ failure,” Arizona Humane Society Cruelty Investigator Lacey VanDeLaare said. “So, for her to be at 109 [degrees] and still here, she by all means shouldn’t be here.”
Once at AHS’s Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital, veterinarians administered hydration-like fluids and continued to stabilize Claire.
AHS said that while the puppy was getting care, she was found with extreme burns underneath her fur, which resulted in open wounds and the risk of infection.
The shelter’s medical team used several innovative treatments, including honey bandages, cold light laser therapy and daily wound cleanings prior to Claire being healthy enough to find a Foster Hero home to continue her healing journey. Claire was additionally treated with antibiotics and pain medications, according to AHS.
“Miraculously, Claire not only survived horrific cruelty but kept her loving, hopeful spirit throughout her ordeal,” AHS stated in the news release. “Now that she is in a loving forever home, Claire’s story serves as a reminder of the 25,000 sick, injured and abused pets the Arizona Humane Society will care for this year.”
