PHOENIX – Part of the main route from Payson to Phoenix was closed after a crash Thursday morning, authorities said.

The closure of southbound State Route 87 was required after to a collision at milepost 221 near Sunflower, south of SR 188, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The highway was shut down near the crash site around 6 a.m. The closure point was eventually moved north to SR 188.

Motorists were advised to expect delays or seek an alternate route.

There was no estimated time for reopening southbound SR 87. The northbound lanes were not affected.

No other details about the crash were immediately available.
