The Sixers on Thursday announced that they’ve exercised Jared McCain’s third-year team option for the 2026-27 season.

According to Spotrac, McCain’s third-year option as the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft is approximately $4.4 million.

The deadline for rookie-scale team option decisions is Friday. There was zero suspense about whether the Sixers would pick up McCain’s option. He showed tons of offensive ability in his rookie season and averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds over 23 games.

The Duke product hasn’t played since suffering a left knee lateral meniscus tear on Dec. 13 of last year. In late September, he tore the UCL in his right thumb.

“It’s all part of the process,” McCain said on Oct. 15. “I’ve just got to trust that it happened for a reason.”

Although the Sixers haven’t set a timeline for McCain’s return to play, he’s made recent progress in his rehab. He’s now able to shoot with his right hand again and participated in a light, non-contact practice Thursday.
