Joao Fonseca’s first full season on the ATP Tour came to an end after his second-round loss at the Paris Masters.
Following Fonseca’s triumph at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, the 19-year-old lost his second match in the French capital against Karen Khachanov.
The Brazilian had beaten Denis Shapovalov in round one at the final ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season, and forced Khachanov to a decisive third set, but ultimately lost 1-6, 6-3, 3-6.

While he would have hoped to go further in Paris, Fonseca‘s debut season on the ATP Tour has been a success.
Having started the year ranked 113th, the Basel champion is now 28th in the world, a position that, if kept, will see him seeded for the Australian Open.
After his 2025 campaign came to an end in Paris, Fonseca took to social media to send a message to his fans.

In a post on Instagram, Fonseca said: “Ending the season feeling very proud of the work my team and I accomplished.
“I’m very grateful for everything that happened this year, which was full of experiences and lessons I’ll carry into the next steps of my career.
“Thanks to my team for their commitment, to my family and sponsors for their support, and to everyone who cheered me on. This is just the beginning.”
In his first full trip around the tour, Fonseca recorded 25 wins to 15 losses and secured two ATP titles.
He clinched a maiden tour-level title at the Argentina Open in February, and picked up crown number two in Basel, becoming the first Brazilian to win a title above ATP 250 level since Gustavo Kuerten in 2001.
Joao Fonseca’s best wins of his debut season on the ATP Tour
Fonseca has picked up a number of big wins throughout his debut season on the tour, the first of which came at the Australian Open.
In his first match in the main draw in Melbourne, Fonseca earned a straight-sets victory over ninth seed Andrey Rublev to earn the first Grand Slam win of his career.
His next big victory came at Challenger level, when he defeated former major champion Kei Nishikori en route to the final in Phoenix, where he ultimately beat now-world number 16 Alexander Bublik to secure the title.
Perhaps his best win this year, however, came in the Swiss Indoors final, when he held his nerve to battle past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to make history for his country and clinch his first ATP 500 title.
