ESPN’s College GameDay gave Nick Saban the platform Saturday to clear the air on rumors and speculation about his name being linked to college football coaching openings.
The popular college football pregame show spent some time talking about the splash hire and the dynamic of expectations surrounding the hiring of college coaches in today’s climate.
“Before we wrap this up, do you want to make an announcement since you are involved with all the jobs out there?” Kirk Herbstreit asked Saban. “Do you want to make an announcement?”
Pat McAfee jumped in, “Where you going? How much they paying you?”
Saban, who turned 74 on Friday, then spoke.
“These guys are all coaching me,” he said of his GameDay panel. “I’m a player now. I’m not a coach.”
The comment comes a day after CFB Alerts listed Saban’s name along with other candidates for the open LSU job.
In a direct response to the post, Saban’s daughter Kristen Saban shut down any rumors by replying, “Some of y’all are literally brain dead” to the image.
