The calendar is shifting closer to winter and while November is expected to deliver some of the snowiest weather of the season, December could bring an even sharper chill to southern Ontario.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac, December will bring colder and drier conditions across the east, while areas farther west may see slightly milder air and a greater chance of rain and snowfall.

The first part of December (Dec. 1 to 11) will feature a mix of rain and snow before transitioning to mainly snowy periods as temperatures fall.

From Dec. 12 to 15, the region is forecast to see sunny skies accompanied by very cold air.

Between Dec. 16 and 21, snow, rain and bitter cold temperatures will dominate the weather pattern across southern Ontario.

To close out the month (Dec. 22 to 31), meteorologists predict more snow before frigid air returns to end the year. The timing could bring a chance of a white Christmas with cold and snow possibly lingering through New Year’s Eve and into 2026.

The Farmers’ Almanac notes that the average temperature for December is anticipated to be near –6 C, about 3 C below seasonal. Precipitation totals are expected to rise to 50 mm, which is approximately 5 mm below average.
