A child is dead after a collision between an SUV and a large farm or construction vehicle on Saturday in Antigonish County.

Emergency services responded to a report of a crash on Highway 104 near Dagger Woods Road and Pomquet Monks Head Road shortly before 10 p.m., a news release says.

The four people in the SUV were taken to hospital where one person, a child, was pronounced dead.

The release did not state the extent of the injuries to the other three people.

The other vehicle left the scene, the release says.

Police later located and seized what they believe to be the other vehicle.

They are asking anyone who was on Highway 104 at the time who saw either of the vehicles involved to contact Antigonish County District RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
