The Chicago Bears escaped with a thrilling 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, where it took all 60 minutes and some late-game heroics by rookie tight end Colston Loveland to seal the win and send Chicago to 5-2.
The Bears outlasted the Bengals in a shootout, where there was a combined 750 passing yards and 89 total points. Chicago’s passing defense was shredded by quarterback Joe Flacco, who passed for 470 yards and four touchdowns. But the Bears saw big contributions from their rookies as Loveland and running back Kyle Monangai were key in the victory.
Following the game, the Bears social team released a video inside the winning locker room, where head coach Ben Johnson addressed his team after the ugly victory.
“I know it wasn’t pretty, but don’t apologize for a win in this league,” Johnson said. “Don’t apologize. We did what we had to do. We said we had to go 3-1 in the second quarter, and we did that… Enjoy this win. It took all 60 minutes for that one. Here’s what I know about this group…if it is close in the fourth quarter, you better watch out.”
Following a rough 30-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8, Johnson’s team bounced back with a huge victory to get them back on the winning track. Next up: a winnable game against the New York Giants, where Chicago’s defense will look to rebound and the offense will look to build on their strong showing.
