Phoenix has First Friday, but Tempe has Second Sundays.

The monthly block party will kick off the season on Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will host local nonprofits, performances, and art to showcase the talent and culture that Tempe has to offer.

“We bring the entire street to life,” said Betheny Kennedy, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Downtown Tempe Authority.

Although Mill Avenue has undergone major changes through construction, the street will be closed to vehicles during the day to allow walkers, bikers, dancers, and everyone else to enjoy the downtown space and celebrate Tempe.

The city will close Mill Avenue from 3rd Street to University Drive. Each hour of the event will feature folklore dancers, Bollywood dancers, giant puppets and more.

The event will also host an outdoor market with local artisans and vendors from around the Valley.

This event will occur once a month with a theme each month. In November, multicultural,  January ‘Create’, February ‘Love on Mill Ave’ and April ‘Urban Adventure’.

Tempe Sister Cities will also have a booth to provide information about the cultural exchange programs and upcoming fundraising efforts.

The event is free, dog-friendly and open to all.
