If no candidate earns more than 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff election on Dec. 13.

HOUSTON — It’s a crowded race to join the Houston City Council. City of Houston voters can select between 14 listed candidates and one write-in candidate in the Tuesday election.

The seat is currently held by Letitia Plummer, who is stepping down to run for Harris County Judge. This term ends in January 2028.

If no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff election on Dec. 13 with the top two candidates.

Usually, city council members are elected every four years. Council members are term-limited and can only serve two terms of four years. The next regularly-scheduled city council election is in November 2027.
