Eric Wareheim is an American comedian, writer, actor, and writer. Most famously, Wareheim is one half of the cult-favorite comedy sketch duo, Tim & Eric, alongside Tim Heidecker. Outside of comedy, television, and showbiz at large, Wareheim is also a devout foodie. Recently, Wareheim teamed up with renowned food writer, Gabe Ulla, to pen a love letter to the American Steakhouse in their recent book: Steak House: The People, the Places, the Recipes.
In the book, Wareheim takes readers on a coast-to-coast tour of steakhouses across America. Profiling nearly 40 steakhouses, Wareheim celebrates the style, personality, and flavor of the restaurants, as well as providing 45 recipes for classic steakhouse fare.
The two authors recently made an appearance on the podcast of celebrity chef, David Chang (of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious fame) to discuss their book. During “Steak With Eric Wareheim and Gabe Ulla” on The Dave Change Show, released October 27, Chang asked them what their favorite steakhouse was. After politely extricating why his choice wasn’t Chang’s own steak house, Major Domo, Wareheim told the host his favorite was Pappas Bros. in Houston.

“Houston: Pappas [Bros.]”, Wareheim replied. “It’s insane“.
“It’s the platonic idea: no bullshit on the menu. You get what you get and it’s perfectly done,” Ulla said.
Wareheim continued to describe the vibe of the restaurant, providing context to his “full package” response to the best steak house question, noting the restaurant’s dash of Southern Charm and heavenly interior.
As far as David Chang’s retort, Chang expressed outrage at never having heard of the steakhouse – calling out Houston’s own Chris Shepherd – who took introduced Wareheim and Ulla to the restaurant – for leaving him out in the blue. To use Chang’s words:
“I’ve been to Houston many times. Chris Shepherd, what the f**k? Never f*cking took me… you’re cutting me out of the good sh*t”.

Chang was clearly jesting in his response, as he would later say of Chris Shepherd: “He’s one of the very best; he’s literally a godsend to the culinary profession“. In previous episodes of Ugly Delicious, David Chang has heaped plenty of praise on Houston’s food scene, calling it “America’s next great food city”.
Steak House: The People, thePlaces, the Recipes is now available for purchase. Pappas Bros. Steakhouse has multiple locations in the Houston area, though the original is located at 5839 Westheimer Rd.
