A low-pressure system and cold front will race through the Northeast overnight, delivering wind gusts around 50 miles per hour along the coast, including the New York City metro Area.
Gusts as high as 60 mph are possible well to the north, from the Catskills to the Capital District. In anticipation of the potentially damaging winds, wind advisories and high wind warnings will be in place overnight.
If you’ve got lawn furniture, garbage cans, or anything else in your yard, driveway or patio that could blow away, you may want to put them inside or secure them before you go to bed tonight so you don’t wake up in the morning to find them on the neighbor’s property or farther down the street.

The strongest gusts will be after midnight, and winds will relax somewhat by the morning commute. Even so, Thursday will be a breezy day, with afternoon gusts close to 30 mph.
Our next chance at rain comes with the weekend. Showers are expected to arrive Friday evening into early Saturday, then we’re dry until Sunday when the next round begins.
