GRAND BLANC, Mich. (WJRT) – Demolition has started on the two main buildings at the former Jewel Golf Course in Grand Blanc, where a new city park is planned.

The clubhouse, pro shop and the former Paddy McGee’s restaurant are being knocked down this week as part of the transformation.

Grand Blanc receives $1.5 million grant to buy former Jewel Golf Course

Grand Blanc has accepted a $1.5 million grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to convert the south side of the golf course into a 147-acre public park. The park is expected to offer a variety of outdoor activities once completed.

The completion date for the park project is still undetermined. Meanwhile, work is in progress to construct condos and single-family residences on the north side of the golf course across Perry Road.

Grand Blanc considers turning portion of closed golf course into park

Developers have proposed a large senior citizen assisted living facility on the former Jewel driving range east of the clubhouse.

The Jewel of Grand Blanc closed in 2021 and the owners allowed the site to grow as wild grass. The course opened in 1968 as the Grand Blanc Golf Course and rebranded in 2009 as the Jewel of Grand Blanc following an ownership change.
