It’s time to batten down the hatches and bring in the patio furniture because high winds are set to blow into Metro Vancouver starting today.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a wind warning for parts of Metro Vancouver, calling for gusts up to 90 km/h.
It joins an earlier rainfall warning for the region that was issued due to the “back-to-back low pressure systems: that hit B.C.’s South Coast during mid-week.

ECCC
“Strong winds that may cause damage are expected,” said ECCC in its alert. “A strong low-pressure system will impact coastal B.C. this afternoon, generating very strong southeasterly winds of 70 km/h gusting to 90.
“Winds will ease below warning criteria early this evening but will remain gusty out of the southwest until Friday morning.”
ECCC also advised residents in southwestern Metro Vancouver, including Richmond and Delta, to secure loose objects.
It also warned that local utility outages and disruptions to services and travel are possible.

The wind warning covers a large section of B.C., including sections of East Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast, Greater Victoria, and the Gulf Islands.
BC Ferries posted on social media that it was keeping an eye on the “intensifying storm” and reminded travellers to check its service notices page for any updates on cancellations on affected routes.

ECCC also issued a coastal flooding statement for parts of the Greater Victoria Coastline as well as the Southern Gulf Islands due to a “storm surge.”
“Elevated ocean water levels accompanied by significant winds and waves are expected, possibly exceeding highest astronomical tide,” the alert stated.
There is clearing on the horizon, with a mix of sun and clouds in the weather outlook for Saturday.
However, you’ll want to bundle up in the evening as overnight lows will dip to 4˚C on Saturday evening.
