The Glendale Corps of the Salvation Army held its annual civic luncheon Wednesday at its campus at 6010 W. Northern Ave. The event welcomed city leaders, dignitaries and community figures, serving as both a fundraiser and an opportunity to highlight the Salvation Army’s mission of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs.
The program began with a silent auction at 11 a.m., featuring prizes donated by local businesses and community organizations, including a 65-inch flat-screen TV from CORE Construction and a memorabilia package from U.S. Rep. Abe Hamadeh.
The luncheon ceremony followed. Layla Villasenor, chair of Salvation Army Metro Phoenix and member of the organization’s National Advisory Board, delivered the keynote speech. During the ceremony, the Glendale Corps presented appreciation awards to St. Mary’s Food Bank, a key partner for its food pantry program, and Accent Tree Care, which donated several hundred dollars in services.
John Crow, CEO of Century 21 Northwest, received the Glendale Corps’ highest honor, the “Others Award,” which recognizes individuals, families, or organizations for extraordinary generosity. Crow has long supported Glendale Corps outreach programs and organizations such as Prom Closet, which helps high school students in need enjoy a dignified prom, and RAM (Raising Arizona Men), which supports young men who have aged out of foster care. Crow is known for giving without seeking recognition.
The event raised $9,500 to support Glendale Corps programs throughout the year, including holiday gifts, school supplies for children in need, and assistance with utilities, food, and other essential services for Glendale residents.
