A body was discovered by firefighters Saturday night under the debris of a house fire in South Dallas, officials said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a structure fire reported at a home in the 4000 block of Spring Avenue at about 10:34 p.m., Jason Evans, a spokesperson for Dallas Fire-Rescue, said.

When firefighters arrived they reported seeing heavy fire conditions coming from the one-story home and quickly worked to extinguish the fire, he said.

After the fire was declared out around 11:21 p.m., a body was found inside the home underneath debris from a partial roof collapse, Evan said.

The Dallas County medical examiner’s office will identify the person and their cause of death. Until then, Evans said the cause of the fire will be listed as undetermined until a final ruling from the medical examiner’s office is received.
