PHOENIX — Less than 18 months after being first introduced to the Valley, ice cream shop Salt & Straw celebrated the opening of its third location in north-central Phoenix on Friday.
“Unconventional” creamery flavors such as Pear and Blue Cheese and fan favorites such as Double Fold Vanilla are now available at Uptown Plaza, which is located at 100 E. Camelback Road.
These two and all 13 “classic, always-available” ice cream flavors will be offered seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The newest store becomes the first in Phoenix, as the first was opened last July in Gilbert and the second was planted in Tempe’s Novus Place in October.
Unique ice cream flavor at new Salt & Straw in Phoenix
The Uptown Plaza location debuted an Arizona-only ice cream flavor called Mole de Novia with Brown Butter Plantains, which includes mole novia white chocolate fudge, over its opening weekend.
Local chef Lawrence Smith of Chilte helped with the exclusive creation, and his restaurant will be offering a slightly altered version of the ice cream beginning on Tuesday.
All purchases of the flavor, which was also available at the other two Salt & Straw Valley locations over the weekend, went toward mental health care nonprofit, Southern Smoke Foundation, which supports food and beverage workers.
“The Arizona community has been incredible to Salt & Straw since our opening in Gilbert,” Salt & Straw co-founder Kim Malek said in a press release. “It was a no-brainer to bring locals an exclusive flavor to our three shops here to show our appreciation. We’ve loved growing our Salt & Straw family here, and are excited to continue connecting with the community and championing voices like Chef Lawrence.”
For the month of November, all brand locations will be hand-crafting five flavors a part of its Thanksgiving Series for customers. The seasonal creations are Pumpkin Pie Tiramisu, Turkey Stuffing and Cranberry Sauce, Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream, Maple Koginut Squash with Pomegranate and vegan-friendly Cranberry Orange Sorbet.
