HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A woman is dead, and a man was taken to the hospital after an altercation in northeast Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the shooting happened Sunday morning in the 12200 block of West Village Drive.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a reported disturbance between a husband and wife. When they arrived, they found a woman dead from a gunshot wound.

Sgt. Michael Ritchie from the sheriff’s office said the incident started as a physical or verbal argument and then escalated to gun violence. Investigators are still working to find out who fired the gun.

“At this time, we are trying to determine whether this was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, or if someone else did shoot her,” Ritchie said.

Sheriff Gonzalez said the man stayed at the scene until he was taken to the hospital for what looked like a cut.

Detectives said the couple had two children, but they were not home during the altercation.

Ritchie also said investigators are still working to confirm the exact relationships between everyone involved.
