There’s no shortage of smash burgers in New York City right now but a Thai take at Bed-Stuy diner Little Grenjai stands from the crowd. Though the burger first drew attention when the restaurant opened in 2023, owners Trevor Lombaer and Sutathip Aiemsaard also serve a large menu of Thai classics and Thai American creations. The bright, low-key nook is a good option when you want something more interesting than the average diner with a similarly chill feel.

This snug counter-service spot is best for small groups, pairs, or solo diners — counter seating offers views of the kitchen or the sidewalk for people-watching. Travel light since you might find yourself scooting around tight tables here.

Make sure you’re going at the right time for the dishes you want, especially if you’re drawn to the more inventive offerings (there are also staples like pad thai). The burger’s a lunch exclusive, while the pandan coconut cream pie and toasted sticky rice ice cream sundae are only available during dinner; the Chiang Mai sausage breakfast sandwich is brunch-only. The restaurant takes reservations for only brunch and dinner.
