Old Mission Beach Athletic Club is taking over Third Avenue in downtown Chula Vista for a full day of pickleball and cornhole, and this isn’t just about playing games – it’s raising money for the Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation.

The inaugural OMBAC on Third tournament transforms the street between E and F Streets into a sports arena with roughly ten pickleball courts and thirty cornhole courts, creating the kind of community event that actually brings people together.

Ombac on Third

Two Tournaments, One Day

The cornhole tournament costs $50 per player and runs as a double elimination format through Scoreholio. After two warm-up games that count toward seeding, teams compete for cash prizes – first and second place both get payouts with a 30/70 split (70% goes to charity), and third place takes home $50.

The tournament area sits between E Street and Davidson, and if you’ve never used Scoreholio, download the app beforehand for seamless bracket tracking and live scoring.

The pickleball tournament is $100 per team and features pool play followed by single elimination brackets. The tournament area runs between Davidson and F Street, and winners receive official Selkirk Sport prizes. The bracket board crew from OMBAC handles the logistics, so you can focus on playing rather than organizing.

Beyond the Competition

Third Avenue will be lined with local vendors and food options, so you’re covered whether you’re playing all day or just spectating.

There’s a beer garden on Davidson Avenue featuring craft brews from Chula Vista breweries, which is the right move for an event like this. You want local flavor at a community tournament, and the beer garden delivers that.

Whether you’re there to win or just enjoy the atmosphere, it’s designed to work for both players and spectators.

Supporting the Fire Department Heritage Foundation

Proceeds go to the Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation, which provides humanitarian aid, education, and career guidance for people pursuing fire suppression careers. That’s the kind of cause that makes registration fees feel less like an expense and more like a contribution to something that matters.

OMBAC has a track record of running solid events, and this first-of-its-kind tournament has the potential to become an annual tradition if it lands well. Given the setup – competitive play, local vendors, craft beer, and a meaningful beneficiary – it’s positioned to do exactly that.
