A woman is dead and a man has been arrested in what police are calling a case of intimate partner violence, the city’s fourth homicide this year.

Police say they arrested a 29-year-old man just after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.

They have since said Daniel Nathaniel Assing has been charged with first-degree murder

The arrest stemmed from officers observing a car driving dangerously near Chatham Street East and Goyeau Street. While police were arresting the man for stunt driving, they noticed a “large amount of dried blood on his face and body.”

“Further investigation led officers to a residence in the 1100 block of Langlois Avenue, where they found a woman showing no vital signs,” police said in a statement Wednesday.

“The 26-year-old victim was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.”

Police say the victim had multiple stab wounds.

Officers say this is Windsor’s fourth homicide this year, and they will not be releasing further details at this time.

“This tragic event underscores the devastating impact of intimate partner violence, which has been declared an epidemic in Windsor and more than 100 other municipalities across Ontario,” police said in their statement, also extending condolences to the victim’s family.
