Houston police released body camera footage of an October 27 officer-involved shooting at Alegria Apartments where a suspect barricaded himself inside.
HOUSTON — Houston police released body camera footage Friday showing an officer-involved shooting that occurred last month when a suspect allegedly barricaded himself inside a vacant apartment and set items on fire.
The incident took place on October 27 at Alegria Apartments when officers responded to a burglary call. Police typically release body camera footage within 30 days of an incident.
According to the footage, officers arrived at the scene and spoke with a security guard who explained that a man had burglarized the leasing office and was now barricaded inside an empty apartment. The guard told officers the suspect had also set some things on fire inside the unit.
Police said they attempted to enter the apartment and called out for the suspect to exit, but he barricaded himself and refused to come out as officers tried to communicate with him.
“Sir you need to come out,” officers can be heard saying in the footage.
According to officers, the suspect pointed a weapon through the blinds of the front window of the apartment. That’s when officers fired their weapons at him.
Officers fired on two separate occasions, with some officers pulling back during the incident.
The suspect, identified as Darwish Wilson, eventually came out of the apartment naked. Officers went to his side, and Wilson was transported to the hospital. No one else was injured in the ordeal.
Wilson faces several charges. According to court records, he has previously served time for other crimes.
