A Northwest ISD elementary school that’s scheduled to open for the next school year has reached 30% completion in construction.
The gist
Northwest ISD’s board of trustees approved an encroachment agreement with the city of Fort Worth at a regular school board meeting Nov. 11.
The agreement allows the district to build and maintain a storm drain, screen wall and ornamental fence that encroach into city easements near the Romer Elementary site along Wagon Train Trail, according to school documents. The agreement requires the district to maintain the structures and has no impact on the school’s budget.
NISD interim Chief of Facilities Sarah Stewart said a storm shelter has been completed, and the steel framing is almost completed for the school.
Stewart said the school’s mascot has also been chosen as the Ravens, along with the school’s interior design concept for purple and magenta colors. The school is scheduled to open in August 2026.
The background
Romer Elementary is named after Leigh Anne Romer, a longtime principal of Thompson Elementary who is remembered for fostering a positive culture for students at the school. Romer was also a mentor for staff members at NISD, according to the district.
The elementary school is one of multiple facilities under construction to meet student growth in the district. Voters approved its construction in May 2023 as part of a $2 billion bond.
