PHOENIX — At least four inmates were hospitalized Sunday morning after a medical emergency at a prison in Goodyear, authorities said.

Phoenix’s Active Incident Dashboard showed first responders being dispatched to Perryville Prison, near Citrus and McDowell roads, at 8:22 a.m.

According to the Goodyear Fire Department, it and other agencies responded to the prison for reports of multiple prisoners seizing.

Crews reportedly treated multiple patients on scene as well as transported at least four inmates to a nearby hospital.

Fire officials said that the cause of the medical emergency is unknown at this time, but could be the result of the inmates ingesting something.

No other information was provided.
