Backyard on Broadway to give 300 meal packages to SNAP cardholders Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – A popular restaurant is stepping up to support families struggling by giving away hundreds of free meals on Tuesday.

Backyard on Broadway will host a meal distribution event on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The restaurant will provide 300 complete meal packages to households that show a SNAP card and a matching photo ID.

Chef-owner Ohio Crawford said the decision to host the giveaway came from hearing how the shutdown has affected people close to his staff.

“When families in our community are struggling to put food on the table, we can’t just stand by,” Crawford said. “We call ourselves a family-friendly restaurant, and that has to mean something. If we can’t support families in times of need, then those are just empty words.”

Each meal package will include a large handcrafted pizza, a family-sized salad, cookies, a gallon of Red Fassionola lemonade, bottled water, and additional canned goods. All food will be made on-site from scratch.
