PHOENIX — A male pedestrian is dead after being struck by a car while crossing the street on Thursday morning in south Phoenix, authorities said.
Police responded to the area of 16th Street and Broadway Road at around 5 a.m. and discovered 21-year-old Angel Gamboa-Serrano on the ground with “critical injuries,” according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Phoenix firefighters then arrived on the scene and took Gamboa-Serrano to a nearby hospital. He didn’t recover from the injury and died at the hospital.

After initial investigation, detectives learned Gamboa-Serrano had attempted to cross 16th Street outside of the marked crosswalk when the vehicle hit him.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as an adult woman, had “minor injuries” and went to a nearby hospital for treatment.
